Go-Anywhere Hilux Conquers Fire and Ice

Australia - This go-anywhere HiLux will feature on the Toyota stand at this year’s Australian International Motor Show in October.

It has demonstrated the exceptional ruggedness of HiLux in some of the world’s harshest environments.

This vehicle was the first car to reach the Magnetic North Pole – an expedition undertaken for the BBC’s Top Gear by Jeremy Clarkson and James May.

And it was the perfect transport for scientists racing to set up monitoring equipment at Iceland’s Eyjafjallajökull volcano.

For the drive to the pole, the HiLux was specially adapted to cope with the extreme terrain and temperatures which dropped as low as minus 36oC.

Perils included polar bears – and hitting hidden blocks of ice which transmitted large shocks through the suspension and at times sent the HiLux airborne.

According to Wale, 15630_07The Volt is a vehicle that makes no compromises. It reduces our dependency on petroleum and cuts emissions, offers a total driving range of about 500 kilometers, and is powered by electricity at all times. It provides users the latest technology, outstanding innovation and something no other electric vehicle can offer 15630_04 peace of mind.15630_10

The Volt is the only electric vehicle that can operate under a range of climates and driving conditions with little concern of being stranded by a depleted battery. For up to the first 60 kilometers, the Volt drives gas- and tailpipe-emissions-free using electricity stored in its 16-kWh lithium-ion battery. When the Volt15630_16s battery runs low, a gasoline-powered range-extending engine/generator seamlessly operates to extend the driving range another 450 kilometers on a full tank. This eliminates so-called 15630_07range anxiety.15630_Ǖȁ
